Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
